Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is prepared to come out of retirement to answer an emergency call from Barcelona.
The Spanish club are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper as number one Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is out for the season after rupturing his patellar tendon during Sunday’s La Liga win over Villarreal.
Szczesny announced in August that he would retire from football after his contract with Juventus was mutually terminated at the end of last season.
The 34-year-old, who has made 84 caps for Poland, has made 200 appearances for Juventus in the seven years since joining from Arsenal for £12.5million.
Barcelona will meet with Szczesny’s representatives this week to see if they can reach an agreement. However, they will also have to examine the terms of his contract termination with Juventus before they can proceed.

Another name being considered is 37-year-old former Nottingham Forest and Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Szczesny announced his retirement last summer, on August 27, at the age of 34. The Pole explained that his “heart is no longer ready” for football.
The Pole is considering ending his retirement, which has lasted just four weeks so far, and moving to Camp Nou.
He has a strong bond with Barcelona striker and Polish compatriot Robert Lewandowski, while he is well known to Flick’s staff due to his experience in European football.
Szczesny last featured at Euro 2024 last summer, when he played in two of Poland’s three group matches.
Barcelona return to action on Wednesday when they take on Getafe in LaLiga as Flick’s side look to maintain their 100 percent record.
Navas is reportedly in good form as he has continued to train with Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa in recent months. Navas has rejected several offers from teams around the world.
