Ford Mustang recall: Close to 19,000 vehicles recalled due to discovery of manufacturing defect

  • Ford has recalled thousands of their Mustangs
  • A wiring fault in the trunk caused numerous problems
  • The affected cars were made between 2014 and 2017

Thousands of popular Mustang sports cars across Australia are being recalled due to faulty wiring.

Ford Australia has recalled nearly 19,000 Mustangs made between 2014 and 2017 after faulty wiring in the trunk caused operational errors with the rear-view camera.

The defect was found in the trunk lid wiring harness, which could cause problems with the camera, satellite radio reception and trunk release.

The recall concerns 18,840 cars, and the government has done so compiled a list including the UN for every Mustang affected by the issue.

Ford Australia has recalled nearly 19,000 Ford Mustangs made between 2014 and 2017 after faulty wiring in the trunk caused operational errors with the rear view camera (pictured is a coupe from that era at the International Motor Show in Paris)

A faulty rear-view camera can cause death and destruction, according to the Department of Transport.

“If the rearview camera does not continuously display the rearview camera image while the vehicle is reversing, it may increase the risk of an accident resulting in serious injury or death to persons behind the vehicle,” it said.

Ford will also contact owners of the recalled cars directly as they race to get the cars off the road.

The company personally contacts each driver and urges them to make an appointment with an authorized Ford dealer so that repairs can be made free of charge.
