- Collingwood have questioned their star player
Brayden Maynard has been questioned by his club after being involved in a car crash on the Mornington Peninsula on Monday morning.
According to 7Sport, the Collingwood star was seen “swerving and cutting off other cars” while driving around 6am on Monday morning.
“Police confirmed to 7NEWS that witnesses informed them that a car matching the description of him was seen cutting off other cars in the area before 6 a.m. on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway,” reporter Mitch Cleary said.
Maynard had spent the weekend at the beach with friends. The AFL club has confirmed no one was injured in the incident.
“Collingwood confirms that Brayden Maynard was involved in a very minor car accident earlier this morning,” the statement said.
‘It is important that no one was injured. Brayden exchanged contact information with the other driver, causing only minor damage to the exterior of Brayden’s vehicle.”
Maynard has been a key figure in the Pies’ recent success, making 186 appearances since being called up in 2014.
The 27-year-old was involved in a controversial incident during last year’s final when he collided with Melbourne rival Angus Brayshaw, causing a concussion.
He was acquitted by the AFL tribunal, but the incident divided the football world, with some calling for a stiff sentence.
As a result of the incident, the AFL is about to approve a rule change that will urge players to exercise more caution when leaving the ground to choke the ball.
