Tyler Brockman has been charged following a car crash in midwest Washington, with the West Coast Eagles recruit and former Hawthorn star due in court in July.

Brockman, 21, who signed for the Eagles at the end of 2023, is said to have fled the scene of the accident on foot on May 4, with no other vehicles involved, before later returning to the Ford Ranger company involved.

The AFL club confirmed he was involved in the crash in Geraldton on Saturday morning, where he had attended a family funeral on Friday.

WA Police have since charged the attacker with careless driving, failing to report an incident involving property damage and failing to stop after the incident.

“Officers from the Highway Patrol Division have charged a 21-year-old man in connection with a road traffic incident that occurred on Saturday, May 4, 2024 in Wandina,” a WA Police statement read on Sunday.

‘At around 12.50pm a Ford Ranger business collided with a light pole whilst attempting to negotiate a roundabout at the junction of Verita Road, Ackland Road and Abraham Street.

‘As a result of the crash, the lamp post was crumpled at the base and fell across the roadway.

“It is alleged that the suspect – who was driving the utility at the time of the incident – fled the area on foot.

‘It is further alleged that the suspect returned to the crash site a short time later to remove the vehicle before police arrived. Neither the crash nor the damage to property was reported to the police.’

Earlier this month, the Eagles released a statement about Brockman, saying he is fully cooperating with authorities.

“Tyler’s personal circumstances are complex and the club will prioritize his health and wellbeing before he returns to football,” the club said.

“The club has informed the AFL of this incident and we await the outcome of the police investigation before commenting further.”
