Central Coast Mariners star Angel Torres was arrested in dramatic scenes at Sydney Airport on Monday.

Torres, 24, had returned to Australia from Kyrgyzstan after playing the full 90 minutes for the Mariners in their 1-1 draw against FK Abdysh-Ata Kant in the Asia Cup.

The case will be heard at Gosford District Court next month.

Torres grew up in Colombia and played at youth level for Portuguese powerhouse Porto. He was sold to Portuguese side Alverca and then had a spell at Maltese club Balzan before moving to the Mariners in 2023.

The 24-year-old has proven to be an ace on the pitch for the A-League club, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in just 33 appearances.
