Fans have criticized Andre Onana for a ‘howler’ that took Manchester City back to the FA Cup final.
Manchester United defied the odds against the Premier League winners and their arch-rivals to win the FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday afternoon, giving Erik ten Hag hope of keeping his job.
Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were on the scoresheet in the first half of the match, and a resolute United defense held out until the 87th minute when Doku scored.
The Belgian’s strike made it a nerve-wracking final few minutes for United, but they lifted the trophy and qualified for Europe at the end of what has been a disappointing season overall.
Onana could arguably have done a better job keeping the shot out, and he has drawn criticism from fans for his efforts to do so.

“Wouldn’t be a United game without an Onana roar,” one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“Onana bro what did we ever do to you, we’re bottling this now,” wrote another.
A third posted: ‘I just watched the replay and that’s really awful from Onana. He’s just not good enough and I don’t think he ever will be.’
Onana has had a mixed debut season at Old Trafford since his £43million move from Inter Milan in the summer, taking the blame for a number of goals but also making impressive saves at times.
United had the 28-year-old to thank at times on Saturday, with the stopper making three saves in the match as his side came under increasing pressure as the match progressed.
He was replaced by long-term goalkeeper David De Gea due to his ball-playing abilities, and eventually helped the Red Devils win a major trophy in his first season at the club.
“I’ll forgive Onana’s mistake if we win this one as some of his other saves were fantastic,” one United fan wrote on X about the mistake.
“If Onana hadn’t made that mistake I’m sure we would have won this,” another posted just before full-time.
A third wrote: ‘That was extremely bad of Onana. We have vilified De Gea for the same thing.”
The full-time whistle caused ecstatic scenes at Wembley, with captain Bruno Fernandes almost breaking down in tears as he opened up about the achievement.
Ten Hag was greeted and congratulated by Prince William as he arrived at the top of the Wembley steps to lift the trophy with his side, while the likes of Raphael Varane, who played his final game for the Red Devils, were all smiles.
Ten Hag had opened up about his United future in a tell-all interview released on the morning of the final, in which he criticized groups of United fans and pundits for their views on his team.
