Millwall players enjoyed a night out for hours after painfully missing out on a Championship play-off spot – with some fans dissatisfied with the celebrations and wondering if they were ‘devastated’.
The Lions were close to finishing in the top six after leading 3-1 against Blackburn in the last game of the season, but eventually capitulated to lose 4-3 to Rovers, allowing Sunderland to take the final play-off spot. .
After finishing the campaign, the team decided to have a night out to celebrate what was still an encouraging season – heading for dinner and drinks, followed by karaoke to cheer each other up.
Players also posed with their girlfriends outside the restaurant as they saw the bright side of their agonizing end to the season — before sending their hearts out at a karaoke bar with a rendition of John Denver’s Take Me Home, Country Roads.
The fan who posted the video wrote, “They seem devastated,” with a laughing and crying emoji – hinting at sarcasm.

It sparked a major debate on social media, with Millwall fans split over whether the players had the right to celebrate after the big disappointment.
One fan was steadfast in his belief that the scenes were “embarrassing.”
“They should be shamed,” the user added.
Another agreed, writing, “If it were me, I’d be too embarrassed to go out.” I’d like to go home, think about where we can improve as a team and then, once things settle down, pull myself away. This is just begging for trouble.”
Others, however, were more understanding and reflective, pointing out that the players are just people who deserve to relax after a tough season.
“It’s their social end of the season,” one wrote. “They deserve to enjoy themselves after 45 weeks of grafting.”
Another said, “They are not mutually exclusive. Try karaoke or let yourself go.’

Speaking of Millwall’s collapse against Blackburn, manager Gary Rowett admitted his team was struggling with nerves and needed to show more composure.
“I thought the second half should be calm, composed and disciplined. We didn’t have to hunt, we didn’t have to open up. What we had to do is not make mistakes.
“As soon as the second goal came in, you saw the nerves in the team,” he said.
‘That little bit of space has just sprung up everywhere. Because Blackburn needed to win, they could play with a little more freedom, attack more with numbers and we had to deal with that defensively.
That was the disappointment. The goals were good shots, but we are disappointed that they scored from those positions. We didn’t get to the ball fast enough and we conceded from those areas, but that’s the game, you have to tackle those big moments.
“Even at half-time you can be up 4-0 or 5-0, you have to go for it and tackle it, you have to go and do the right things. You have to show a certain amount of control and composure, and that was definitely something we needed to do a little bit better.”
