Edge Hill, Cairns: State school locked down amidst ’emerging incident’ – as public are urged to avoid the area

A primary school has been closed as police declared an emergency following reports of gunfire in the area.

Emergency services were called to a property on Collin Avenue in Edge Hill, Cairns, at around 1pm on Thursday, where they found a two-vehicle collision.

Police believe one person shot another before leaving on foot, creating an emergency at 2 p.m.

Locals have been urged to avoid the area or ‘stay indoors with doors and windows closed’.

Edge Hill State School, just hundreds of yards away, went into lockdown shortly afterwards when parents received a text message assuring them that ‘all our students and staff are safe and well’.
