Eddie McGuire’s production company may helm Olivia Newton-John’s state memorial

Eddie McGuire’s JAM TV production company is tipped to helm the upcoming state memorial for the late Olivia Newton-John.

According to the Daily Telegraph, ‘preliminary discussions will be held this week to start formulating the public tribute to Newton-John’.

JAM TV previously produced cricketer Shane Warne’s memorial at the MCG to great acclaim.

The memorial was praised as one of the biggest technical feats in Australian TV history after JAM TV were able to pull it together in just three weeks.

It’s believed that Newton-John’s memorial may take the form of a star-studded tribute concert, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet.  

Meanwhile, the songstress will be honoured in a Channel Seven special this Sunday after her death aged 73 from cancer.

‘Olivia – A Magical Life’ featuring Delta Goodrem, Bee Gees star Barry Gibb and Cliff Richard will air 7:30pm Sunday.

The musicians will share their favourite memories of the late singer, with Wendy Matthews singing Olivia’s song, ‘I Honestly Love You’.

Dami Im is set to take a break from her maternity leave to lend her voice to the special, while Katie Noonan and Samantha Jade will also perform. 

It comes as cities around Australia light up in tribute to the star, while famous faces across the globe have also paid tribute to her.

The Australian icon died peacefully at her home in southern California, surrounded by family and friends on Monday.

Olivia’s husband John Easterling broke the news of the star’s death in a heartbreaking Facebook post on Monday morning, following her brave and extraordinarily decades-long battle with cancer.

‘Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends,’ Mr Easterling wrote.

‘We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.

‘Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.

‘Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer.’

The actress famously beat breast cancer twice but was diagnosed again in 2017.

Newton-John’s husband announced her death on her Facebook page on Monday. She was 73 

Among other tributes included Australian singer Delta Goodrem, who honoured her beloved ‘mentor and friend’.

Delta, 37, shared pictures of herself hugging Olivia and said she was ‘like family’ to her.

‘I love you forever,’ Delta wrote in her moving post. ‘The whole world will feel this heartbreak today because the entire world felt Olivia’s unmatched light. A force for good. A force of nature. Strong and kind.’

In memory: Newton-John’s Instagram was mostly made up of flashback posts from throughout her career, but on April 18 the star shared a rare candid photo of herself with a beaming smile beside a bed of sunflowers 

‘My mentor, my friend, my inspiration, someone who always guided me… she was always there for me. Family to me.’

She added: ‘I don’t have all the words I would like to say today but I hope everyone will join in celebrating our beloved Olivia, her heart, soul, talent, courage, grace… I love you forever ❤️.’

Singer Dionne Warwick, 81, wrote ‘Another angelic voice has been added to the Heavenly Choir. Not only was Olivia a dear friend, but one of the nicest people I had the pleasure of recording and performing with. I will most definitely miss her. She now Rests in the Arms of the Heavenly Father.’

Brooke Shields, 57, shared a lovely black and white photo of her and Olivia to Instagram, writing: ‘A true class act whose light shines everywhere she went… she inspired us all.’

‘A wonderful mother and wife, who was grace and strength personified. Sending all of my love to Olivias family and friends. She’ll never be forgotten.’

Scarface star Michelle Pfeiffer, 64, posted a photo of her and Olivia writing: ‘Thank you for your art and talent you gifted us all so graciously with. You will be so greatly missed.’
