EastEnders legend leaves fans shocked as they make a surprise return to Albert Square after a six-year absence

EastEnders fans were stunned to see a legend return to the soap after six years in Monday night’s episode.

Angela Wynter, 66, who plays Yolande Trueman in the BBC soap, made a shock return to see ex Patrick.

When she showed up to see her on-screen ex-husband, who plays Rudolph Walker, she revealed that she was getting divorced after her secret affair with Patrick was discovered.

That’s what an insider told me The sun: ‘This will be a huge thrill for EastEnders fans as she is regarded as one of the favorites among devotees.

“She’s just one of many characters returning to Albert Square and while she may not be as high-profile as Ian and Cindy, she’s sure to be just as enthusiastically received by veteran viewers.”

She made her Albert Square debut as Patrick’s lover in 2003 before later getting engaged.

The actress has been feuding with Pat Evans, played by Pam St. Clement, after it was revealed that the soap matriarch was having an affair with Patrtick.

In 2008, she left The Square for a new job and later returned for a brief return in 2017.

Fans were ecstatic when Yolande returned to the soap and took to Twitter to highlight their excitement.

Following Yolande’s return, the soap has gained a large cast, including Shona McGarty, 31, who plays Whitney Dean, who is leaving the show.

Shona, who joined the BBC drama in 2008 at the age of 16, will have her last scenes broadcast in early 2024.

An EastEnders spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘Shona is leaving and bosses have decided to write out Karen’s character. We’re not adding anything at this stage.’

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday about her decision to leave Albert Square, Shona said: ‘I have decided to spread my wings and will be leaving EastEnders. I’ve enjoyed my years on the show.”

A source told the publication that the decision “wasn’t an easy decision,” but that Shona believes now is the right time to “try something new.”

They added, “She hopes the door will remain open for her character to return one day, but nothing is guaranteed and it’s all in the hands of the screenwriters.”
