Eastenders fans slam Ben Mitchell for making cancer stricken Lola Pearce-Brown’s death ‘about him’

Eastenders viewers were furious on Thursday night when Ben Mitchell pursued his plans to extend the life of the dying Lola Pearce-Brown, despite her wishes.

Lola, played by Danielle Harold, has a terminal brain tumor and was recently given only months to live, and her final scenes are expected to air soon.

And while the rest of her family has gathered to support her, Ben, with whom she shares daughter Lexie, refuses to accept this fact.

Ben has been fighting with friends and family for days to convince them to get Lola into a clinical trial in America.

And although no one agreed, he still decided to go through with it and fly to America to meet with the specialist doctors.

‘Selfish’: Eastenders viewers were furious on Thursday night when Ben Mitchell pursued his plans to extend the life of the dying Lola Pearce-Brown, despite her wishes

He revealed his plans to his husband Callum, saying, “I’m going to that clinic, in America.

“If it doesn’t work, then it doesn’t, but at least I can say I tried.

“I can stand at Lola’s grave and say I did everything I could.

“You have to see how important that is to me.

“I feel like I have the whole world against me now. And I really need you by my side.”

Reluctantly, Callum sided with Ben and supported his decision to go.

Ben then visited Lola to apologize for his behavior but assured that he would do everything he could for her.

“I’m not here to cause trouble. I’m here to apologize… again.

“The things I’ve said, the way I’ve behaved, it’s not right. I’m sorry.’

As Lola’s partner Jay leaves the room, Ben moves on to a sleeping Lola.

Convinced that she still had some struggles in her, he told her that he would do everything he could to keep her in the house for a few more months, when their daughter starts high school.

And taking to Twitter when the episode aired left fans furious at the character, who made Lola’s death “all about herself.”

One said, “I know Ben thinks he’s doing the right thing, but he really just wants to prolong the inevitable for Lola.”

A second added: ‘Ben is really in so much denial. Why doesn’t the family notice what’s wrong with him?’

“Ben is going to regret this in a month when Lola is dead,” said a third.

A fourth said, “Ben, there’s nothing more you can do. Lola is going to die and you have to accept that. You are in denial and need serious professional help! This is not what Lola wants and you can’t force her to undergo the treatment if it’s not 100% reliable.’

Trouble started to emerge for Ben on Wednesday’s episode, when an agitated Ben lashed out at Lola for “not fighting enough” and telling her “you should be in the hospital.”

He also revealed to Lola that he told their daughter she would be there when Lexie starts school in September.

Despite a clash of heads between Ben and Lola’s current partner Jay, who told him to ‘back off’, his words don’t seem to get through.

As the episode’s credits rolled, a conniving Ben could be seen on the phone with a doctor, telling the professional his plans to keep Lola alive for a few more months.

It comes after viewers were “sobbing” when Lola began to say her final goodbyes to her daughter Lexie during Wednesday’s episode.

And as her condition worsened, Lola began saying goodbye to her loved ones, starting with her daughter Lexie.

After undergoing a baptism to “end up” in heaven with her daughter, the couple shared a heart under the belt.

Lexi told her mother, “I’m glad we’re going to heaven together.

Lola replied, “Me too. But I can wait a very long time, okay? I want you to have a long and happy life first. I’ll always watch over you, you know?’

As Lola began to cry, she continued: Lex, while mom is getting a little weaker, I want you to be a little stronger for me, okay?

“You know, if you ever want to talk to me, like that pastor did to God, just talk to me. I will always listen.

“If you’re in pain, you’ll feel my arms tight around you.

“When you’re happy, you’ll hear me laughing with you.

“I’ll always, always watch over you, okay?”

Lexie replied, “When I have a daughter, I’m going to tell her all about you.”
