Driver reportedly rams into police car and sets stolen vehicle on fire before finally being restrained in dramatic arrest

A man has been arrested after a police car was allegedly rammed and a stolen car was set on fire.

Police say officers spotted a car on Manchester Road in Mooroolbark, Victoria at 12.35pm on Wednesday.

The car was allegedly stolen from Hampton last year.

Police say officers spotted a car on Manchester Road in Mooroolbark, Victoria at 12.35pm on Wednesday.

Officers attempted to pursue the 25-year-old driver when the car reportedly collided with the police vehicle.

A helicopter was called in to help officers on the ground chase the vehicle through several suburbs, including Montrose, Kolorama, Mount Dandenong and Emerald.

The driver then stopped at Cockatoo before reportedly setting fire to the car and fleeing on foot.

He was subsequently arrested by the police and is currently assisting them in their investigation.

There were no reports of injuries.
