Donald Trump served Thanksgiving meals to law enforcement officers fighting illegal immigration at the southern border.

The former president took selfies and delivered meals to officers near McAllen, Texas, with Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Sunday.

Just moments after the meals were served, Abbott endorsed Trump’s bid for the presidency as the campaign heats up and is about to begin as the primaries begin in less than two months.

Those who attended Sunday’s meal included Texas State Troopers, Texas National Guard soldiers, Texas Department of Public Safety officers and others who will be stationed along the southern border this week during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Trump appeared alongside Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who plans to support the ex-president in his 2024 bid for the White House

‘Government. “Abbott recognizes that no president has done more than Donald Trump to secure our border,” said a statement from Trump’s campaign.

Video and footage from Sunday’s event showed Trump and Abbott serving the meals while the ex-president shook hands and posed for selfies with officers in Edinburg, Texas.

On Saturday, Trump delivered remarks at a rally in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where he asked voters in the nation’s first state to rally for him on January 15.

During his remarks in Iowa, Trump explained his plan to “end every open borders policy of the Biden administration.”

The trip to Iowa comes as polls show Trump at least 30 points ahead of the rest of the primary field — with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis remaining in a distant second, followed by former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley .

“We need a president who is going to secure the border,” Abbott said in his statement of support for Trump. “We need a president who will restore public order in the United States of America, and not allow these criminals to loot the stores of which you see images almost every night.”

“We need a president who will restore world peace, in contrast to this outbreak of war under Joe Biden. We need Donald J. Trump back as our President of the United States of America.”

“I am here to officially declare my support for Donald J. Trump as President of the United States of America!” Abbott wrote.
