Dominic Calvert-Lewin is STILL injured in Everton’s defeat to Leicester just days before Gareth Southgate is set to name his England World Cup squad… with the striker ‘expected to undergo scans for a hamstring injury’ on Monday

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was substituted with another injury during Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester after reportedly feeling a ‘thrill in his hamstring’.

Calvert-Lewin has already missed most of this season after suffering a ‘freak’ knee problem on the eve of the 2022/2023 season, which prevented him from winning the Blues’ first nine league games.

He has since returned to action, returning to the squad for their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in October, and has played six games since, netting one goal in Everton’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Frank Lampard (pictured) confirmed after the match that he would undergo scans this week

It was a frustrating 15 months for the 25-year-old who was ruled out of 14 games last season with a broken toe.

Unfortunately for Everton, the injury immediately looked ominous, with Calvert-Lewin getting up and walking into the tunnel, straight to the medical rooms.

After the game, Frank Lampard confirmed fears that the attacker had suffered a ‘hamstring problem’ and that this could lead to ominous concerns about his World Cup availability.

When asked if he knew how serious the injury was, the Everton boss told Sky Sports: “No. We scan it, it’s a sensation in his hamstring. We don’t think it’s a serious injury, but we’ll have to wait for the scan.’

But after the game, Lampard told BBC Sport that ‘it was on the lighter side of a hamstring injury’

While it’s not the first time Calvert-Lewin has had problems with his hamstring, having been sidelined for two games in the 2020/21 season due to a soft tissue problem, the striker now appears to be a major doubt for the club. World Cup.

After the game, Everton legend Kevin Campbell told Sky Sports the striker “might need to be better managed”.

“Well, he’s not going,” Campbell said when asked about Calvert-Lewin’s hopes for the World Cup.

“He comes back and plays back-to-back games. Scoring against Crystal Palace, good for his confidence’

‘But unfortunately he’ [Calvert-Lewin] just didn’t play enough football. By getting these injuries, I think he needs a lot of games and time in which he plays a certain number of minutes.”

Idrissa Gueye (left) was also substituted in the second half with what appeared to be injuries

“But he keeps going. He needs to be guided better.

‘[Not going to] The World Cup will allow him to recover, train a lot and then attack around Christmas. But again. They’ll have to keep him working and organize some games behind closed doors.’

Frank Lampard now has to deal with even more injuries, because Idrissa Gueye and Amadou Onana were also substituted in the second half with apparently injuries.

Everton drop to 15th place in the Premier League, while Leicester jump them to 13th on goal difference.
