President Joe Biden was mocked online Monday after he stumbled over his words and referred to “oyster bunnies” instead of the “Easter bunnies.”
The president made his verbal blunder during his opening remarks at the annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn of the White House.
“By the way, say hello to the oyster bunnies!” Come on up, bunnies, so they can see you. Come on,” he said to the two large costumed Easter bunnies dressed for the occasion.

“Pretty big rabbit, huh?” Biden asked the children as he concluded his remarks. ‘Thank you all very much. It’s all yours: the president’s house.”
The transcript of Biden’s remarks at the White House showed the president saying “Easter bunnies.”
The topic of “Oyster Bunnies” quickly trended on social media after the president’s speech.
Biden’s gaffe sparked a flood of jokes on social media.
“The only president who can hide his own eggs wants YOU to say hello to the Oyster Bunnies,” Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) joked on X.
“No, this is not an April Fools joke,” conservative social media entrepreneur Graham Allen wrote on X.
The president’s comment also spawned many political memes, as users began photoshopping images of oysters to replace the heads of the bunnies in the White House.
Other images generated by AI or Photoshop showed bunnies sitting in an open oyster shell.
“It’s Oyster Bunny Visibility Day!” said user @tinfoilbaddie on X, allusive to the Easter weekend controversy in which Biden recognized Transgender Visibility Day on Easter Sunday.
Senate candidate Thomas D. Murphy posted a meme depicting rabbit ears attached to an oyster shell, joking that CNN would report its existence.
