Scottie Scheffler accelerated forward and dragged a police detective to the ground after he was told to pull over his car outside Valhalla Golf Club, according to a police complaint following his stunning arrest Friday morning.
Ahead of his second round at the PGA Championship, world No. 1 golfer Scheffler was seen being led in handcuffs into a police car during a remarkable series of events.
The 27-year-old was then jailed before being released and eventually returning to Valhalla to tee off just after 10am. He now faces four criminal charges, including second-degree assault on a police officer.
“Detective Gillis directed traffic to Gate 1 of the Valhalla Golf Course as the road was closed in both directions due to a previous fatal collision,” the citation reads.

‘Specify subject [Scheffler] was driving eastbound to access the track. The subject drove into the westbound lanes, where outgoing traffic flowed and to avoid traffic jams.
“Detective Gillis was located in the middle of the westbound lanes, wearing full LMPD uniform and a high-visibility yellow reflective raincoat. Detective Gillis stopped the subject and attempted to give instructions.
“The subject refused to comply and accelerated forward, pulling Detective Gillis to the ground. Detective Gillis had pain, swelling and abrasions on his left wrist and knee. He was transported to hospital by ambulance personnel for further medical treatment.
Detective Gillis’ uniform pants, valued at approximately $80, were damaged beyond repair.”
