DeSantis reveals he used ‘balls’ – golf balls – to meet wife Casey

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis revealed that he had “balls” — golf balls — to thank for meeting his wife Casey.

In his recent meeting with Piers Morganthe Florida governor told how he met Casey, a local TV reporter at the time, at a golf course in 2006.

He believed the brunette beauty was watching him, as when she told the story she explained to Morgan that she was looking at his bucket of practice golf balls.

“I used the balls as a way to talk to her,” the Florida governor told Morgan. “So we started talking, we divided the balls and we hit them. And then we went out and the rest is history, but I think she was basically watching the balls. I really think I was wrong!’

DeSantis and the first lady of Florida have been married since September 2009 Insider report in November that they got married at Walt Disney World. Ironically, DeSantis is at war with Disney over the company’s opposition to the GOP-approved “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

“So you owe a lot of golf balls to true love?” muttered Morgan.

‘I do!’ replied the governor. And who would have thought that both of us would have randomly been there at the same time on any given day in 2006. I’m new to the Navy and she’s a local TV reporter at the time, and we just happened to break up.”

The governor of Florida told Morgan that he realized early on in his relationship with Casey that she was the one.

“I would say pretty early on, I was like ‘this is different’ and I made sure to court her,” DeSantis explained. “Of course I was mobilized to Iraq so we stayed together, but I told myself as soon as I get back from Iraq I’ll ask the question and so we did.”

DeSantis said he took Casey to a “nice little resort in Florida.”

“And we were on the balcony, and I had a nice ring, and I got down on the knee and asked her,” he revealed.

Morgan teased him, “So you took the knee?” Good?’

‘Yeah yeah. That’s the only time I kneel is for that,” DeSantis replied, referring to the GOP pushback against athletes who knelt during the national anthem to protest racial inequality.

DeSantis said his fiancee-to-be wasn’t necessarily surprised by the proposal.

“She let us know she was happy and we were ready to move to the next level, so I don’t think it was a super shock, but it was good to get that in the win column. and I don’t think I could have done better in life,” he said. “Not just to have a girlfriend, we have three great kids, she’s a great mom, she’s a great first lady.”

DeSantis also described how his wife has become more beautiful with age.

“She’s really the whole package and there’s a picture I have of the 2019 inauguration and then in 2023 at the desk, the same pose, she’s more beautiful in 2023 than she was in 2019, and she had a child, she went through four years of this bullshit, and she beat breast cancer.’

“How do you become more beautiful after four years?” he asked. “She’ll find a way to do it.”

Casey DeSantis was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2021.

The governor recalled how his wife was initially told by a doctor that she had nothing to worry about, but still felt something was wrong, so insisted on a mammogram.

When it came back positive for breast cancer “it was very, very hard,” the Republican recalled. “It totally changes your life, changes the trajectory of your family.”

“So I think that was one of the hardest moments. And then I would say the chemotherapy. It just sucks you in. It’s like putting poison in your body and seeing someone you love go through that, it was really hard on her, but it’s also just, you hate to see it. It’s like ‘What can I do, I can’t suddenly make it better,'” he noted. “That’s why I was there, just to be a helping hand, I went to all the chemo treatments with her, and I got attacked by the left for being out of the office one day, but I was at the cancer center with her when she said I wasn’t doing my job.’

He said that while he feared the worst, he was also sure she would recover.

“You always have that fear but I’m a data guy and went to look it up and I said ‘You’re going to beat it’ and she didn’t necessarily want to hear that because she was so scared just like anyone would be but I’m like, ‘I’ve been looking at the data, I’m looking at the treatments, you’ll be fine.’ So I felt really confident and the doctors had a plan, I talked to doctors all over the country and they all told us to do the things that we ended up doing,” DeSantis recalled. “I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I definitely thought she’d beat it.”

Casey was declared cancer-free last March.

Unlike President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, who are teetotalers, Florida’s first couple celebrated with their beer of choice.

‘We had a big hug, I was emotional, and then we celebrated with Guinness! We both like Guinness very much,’ he said.
