Defiant Marjorie Taylor Greene says Kevin McCarthy ‘has my back’

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said House Speaker Kevin McCarthy “has my back” and told her she would “never” be removed from her committee assignments, despite anger from her GOP colleagues at her recent behavior.

The Georgia congresswoman was shut down by her fellow Republicans at a committee hearing on Wednesday after she called Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas a “liar” and raised her old accusation that California Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell had a sexual relationship with a Chinese. spy.

She spoke to McCarthy in the aftermath.

“He supported everything I said,” she told reporters on Capitol Hill on Thursday. “He said I was right.”

She also said he assured her she would not be removed from her committee duties. In 2011, the Democrat-controlled House removed her from committees after she pushed several conspiracy theories, some related to Q-Anon.

“He said it will never happen and he has my back,” she said.

And she pushed back on reports that her fellow Republicans are angry with her over her comments.

“No one has personally come to me expressing anger and I can’t imagine they would be angry,” she told DailyMail.com.

At Wednesday’s hearing, Tennessee Republican Chairman Mark Green banned Greene from further speaking following her allegations and outbursts. She began her speaking time by going after Swalwell, who was being targeted by a suspected Chinese intelligence agent. He cooperated with investigators and was never charged with any wrongdoing.

But Greene accused him of having an affair without evidence. She also accused Mayorkas of allowing fentanyl deaths to happen, calling him a “liar.”

Over there were messages that Chairman Green was furious with Taylor Greene for her behavior and planned to talk to McCarthy about removing her from the House Homeland Security Committee if she ever had another outburst like this.

Taylor Greene said she spoke with Speaker Green on the House floor on Thursday and they agreed to disagree.

“He actually said we have two different styles,” she said outside the Capitol after the House held a series of votes. “And so we are still in disagreement about what happened yesterday. But you know, I’m still new to committees. So I’ll make sure I make sure I follow the rules, which I think are important. But at the same time I keep going.’

Homeland Committee chair spokesman Mark Green denied reports that the congressman wanted Marjorie Taylor Greene removed from the panel

And Taylor Greene doubled down on both of her charges.

“I think everyone knows that Minister Mayorkas is a liar. He has lied to Congress time and time again. And he lied yesterday. His policies kill more than 300 Americans every day,” she said.

And she said of Swalwell, “That’s why Congressman Swalwell was removed from the Intel committee. Because it is known that he had a sexual relationship with a Chinese spy. And if that’s offensive to Republicans or Democrats, then I think they should reconsider what’s more offensive — that I’m speaking out in front of a committee or Congressman Eric Swalwell having a sexual relationship with a known Chinese spy? I think I find it more offensive that he had the sexual relationship with the Chinese spy, not that I’m just saying it.”

A spokesman for Chairman Green said there was never a threat to remove Taylor Greene from the panel.

TThe spokesperson pointed out that Chairman Green had to “enforce the rules of the panel” to silence Taylor Greene.

“In addition, at no point did Chairman Green have any discussion about removing a current member from the committee,” the person added.

Greene has been a focal point and point of contention for Republicans with her outspoken comments and accusations.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Democrats moved twice to remove her comments from the record before the Republican chairman intervened.

It started when Taylor Greene attacked Swalwell after he posted a photo on his social media accounts of her calling for the FBI to be abolished. She brought up a years-old incident where Swalwell was accused of having a sexual relationship with Chinese spy Fang Fang.

Her claim – which was made without evidence – had nothing to do with Wednesday’s hearing on the southern border crisis.

New York Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman wanted her “completely inappropriate” words struck off the record, but the GOP-led panel rejected the motion.

When the congresswoman resumed her speaking time, she accused Mayorkas of failing to prevent the flow of fentanyl to the US

“Congressman, let me assure you we will not let this go on. We are fighting this,” he said in response.

Greene then shouted: ‘No, I’m winning my time back. You are a liar. You let this continue. And the numbers prove it.’

This time, Democratic ranking member Bennie Thompson of Mississippi asked for her words to be removed from the record.

It was after that second incident that Rep. Mark Green, the committee’s Republican chairman, ruled she could not speak for the remainder of the hearing.

“It’s pretty clear that the rules say you can’t challenge someone’s character. Identifying someone or calling someone a liar is unacceptable in this committee and I direct that we delete those words,” he said.

Taylor Greene left the hearing left shortly after being silenced.
