Decorated Australian horse Winx to be formally honoured with movie documentary – with her incredible 33 consecutive wins – including 25 Group One races – a key focus in the film

  • The upcoming movie will be called ‘A Horse Named Winx’
  • Winx won 25 Group 1 races, earning $26.4 million in prize money
  • The film will hit the silver screen in September

Decorated Australian racehorse Winx is being honored with a film documentary that successfully captures her extraordinary career.

‘A Horse Named Winx’ tells the inspiring story of one of Australia’s greatest sporting champions, who became a national treasure when she won 33 consecutive races.

Janine Hosking, director and producer of the film, said it has been a ‘labor of love’ to bring Winx’s story to the screen.

‘I remember my mother [Lorna] told me one day ‘you have to look at this great horse, Winx,’ who kept winning her races,” she said News Corp.

‘From that moment on, I became fascinated by the enormous power of Winx and her story.’

Hosking interviewed the likes of Winx’ trainer Chris Waller, champion jockey Hugh Bowman, plus the mare’s owners Debbie Kepitis, Peter and Patty Tighe – and they were all on board in terms of a film.

The film documents Winx from her days as a rising foal to an eventual sporting phenomenon.

During Winx’s reign, huge crowds descended on race tracks across Australia – including Royal Randwick and Flemington – to witness the Phar Lap of modern times.

She managed to rack up 33 consecutive wins, a record that will likely stand the test of time.

Winx almost died when her first foal was stillborn, but she slowly recovered and eventually gave birth to a healthy filly by Pierro.

The filly later sold for a whopping $10 million at the Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney last month.

Previously, the sales record for a yearling filly was $5 million for a half-brother of the iconic racehorse Black Caviar in 2013.

In addition to her racing record of 33 consecutive victories – including a whopping 25 Group 1 wins – Winx also collected $26.4 million in prize money.

She also won a record four consecutive Cox Plates between 2015 and 2018.
