Deadliest Catch star Nick Mavar has died at the age of 59.
The former F/V Northwestern sailor died Thursday afternoon after a medical emergency in Naknek, Alaska, Bristol Bay Borough police confirmed. TMZ.
Mavar’s family has been notified and police are conducting interviews but would not reveal the nature of the medical emergency.
He appeared in 98 episodes of Deadliest Catch from 2005 to 2021.
Mavar left the show after suffering a ruptured appendix – which was chronicled in one of his final episodes.

He sued Captain Sig Hansen, claiming there was a delay in receiving outside medical treatment due to the pandemic.
Per ADNMavar’s complaint alleged that a “delay in competent and adequate examination, testing and diagnosis” led to a ruptured appendix and the discovery of a cancerous tumor.
The original complaint alleged, “The lack of a plan for outside medical care led to the ‘inability to ensure that plaintiff was promptly taken to Dutch Harbor Medical Clinic for an examination and assessment of the patient’s medical condition plaintiff.”
It also alleged that the delayed care caused the rupture, leading to infections, surgeries and cancer treatments that “would not have occurred if the appendix had been removed before the rupture.”
Hansen said the blame was not solely his and singled out the manufacturing company and the medical subcontractor.
In May 2023, Northwestern’s owners sought damages and legal and medical payments related to Mavar’s injuries.
