Matthew Hussey, the leading dating coach with more than three million subscribers on YouTube, has warned that there are two glaring warning signs to look out for if you want to avoid heartache later.
Speaking on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show, the US-based dating guru warned that the ‘inability to say sorry’ and ‘failure to keep promises’ are both big warning signs – but added that you shouldn’t be too rigid when it comes to relationships go. deal breakers.
Discussing his new book Love Life: How to Raise Your Standards, Find Your Person, and Live Happily (No Matter What), Hussey told host Evans: “I always say red flags are dangerous because we live in a world where everything is dangerous. become a warning sign for people.’
But despite saying we should let some minor mistakes pass, Hussey said there are certain warning signs that “really matter” and that “ignoring them” would make “happiness virtually impossible.”
The life coach explained that if he were to ignore “redundant warnings” and identify the ones that “really matter,” the two crucial signs are the inability to say sorry and the failure to keep promises.

Hussey continued: “None of these things, as a one-time event, necessarily mean the end of the world. We’ve all broken a promise, forgotten to do something we said we would do.
‘We have all had an argument where we found it difficult to say sorry in that argument. But as a chronic condition of someone who isn’t good for their word, and someone who can’t say sorry, these two are pretty powerful warning signs in their own right.
“But together they become what I consider a kind of dark combination. Because if you have someone who can’t keep his promises, but if he doesn’t keep his promise, he can’t even be responsible for that. They can’t say sorry. Yes, that is a very powerful combination.’

“We tend to have very high standards about things that don’t matter, especially when we’re growing up, in our 20s, and so on,” the dating coach continued.
“The person you’re dating or in a relationship with right now doesn’t have to win the award for the best chemistry you’ve ever had in your life.
“You need chemistry with them somehow.
“But guess what, you also need a lot of other things that are super important to a real relationship, like reliability and loyalty and consistency and respect and being seen by that person.
“These are the things we need to prioritize if we want to be happier. We have to actually pursue the right things, instead of the wrong ones.’

Despite being one of the world’s leading dating gurus, Matthew has now disappeared from the dating game himself following the wedding of Audrey Le Strat, who he met through mutual friends at a party in Sicily in 2023.
