A bomb cyclonic storm has plunged much of the country into life-threatening sub-zero temperatures as cold air moves into the US from Canada.

The arctic blast is expected to head south into Texas and will bring with it massive amounts of snow that are creating increasingly dangerous road conditions.

Traffic was forced to stop after a truck lost control on I-70E as the winter bomb cyclone continues to batter the US.

The shocking video shows the experience of a Wyoming State Trooper trying to navigate into position as the storm battered Cheyenne and temperatures dropped to minus 18 degrees.

Any visibility ends on the hood of the patrol car, after which a total blackout ensued.

Soldiers responded to hundreds of calls as the storm intensified.

Accidents and at least six deaths are reported across the US as the storm travels from state to state, dramatically disrupting many Americans’ vacation travel plans.

Up to two-thirds of US flights are expected to be canceled or delayed. Amtrak train service and many bus lines reported changes and cancellations across the country Friday morning.

On Friday alone, around 10,000 US flights were delayed and more than 3,000 have been cancelled.

In addition to the cold front, strong winds of up to 35 miles per hour are expected to accompany the already frightening weather, creating life-threatening temperatures and a minus 30 degree wind chill.

Domenica Davis, a meteorologist for The Weather Channel, said blowing and shifting snow will be the “main concern” with this storm.

The highest additional snowfall totals along the path of the deadly winter storm are likely near the Great Lakes, as well as in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, western Lower Michigan, far north Indiana and western upstate New York, according to Fox.

The northern plains of the country are expected to receive freezing winds of up to negative 70 degrees.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported three fatal crashes Wednesday that were likely weather related. Two more were reported in Oklahoma, and a fatal crash occurred in Oregon on Tuesday due to icy roads.

Traffic on I-70E outside of Columbus, Ohio was brought to a standstill when a truck lost control.

In New Jersey, the Department of Transportation also issued a commercial vehicle travel restriction on interstate highways beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.

The forecast predicts that temperatures will drop rapidly beginning in the afternoon, which can lead to a flash freeze on wet roads across the state.
