Daniel Ricciardo goes undercover as salesperson ahead of Melbourne Grand Prix and gets stitched up

Australian F1 star Daniel Ricciardo is well known for his trickster antics, but what happens when the script is flipped?

The Red Bull reserve driver returned to Australia for the Melbourne Grand Prix on Sunday and took time out with the Nova team of Fitzy, Wippa and Kate Ritchie to play a prank on some unsuspecting locals.

Looking goofy in Coke bottle glasses, a fake mustache and slicked back hair, Optus’ head of optimism took a position at a retail store selling phones and internet plans to customers.

Through an earpiece, Nova’s cackling trio were giving instructions on what to say.

Little did he know, however, that the tide was about to turn in a big way.

Ricciardo Reveals His Hilarious Look For Prank To Unsuspecting Optus Customers In Melbourne

It started innocently enough, with a young man walking into the store looking for a new smartphone after dropping his in the pool.

“Actually, I call it vroom vroom, which is weird, but if that’s okay with you, we’ll call it vroom vroom,” Ricciardo replied.

As the stunned customer stared at the F1 superstar, Ricciardo reached into a bag at his feet and pulled out a smartphone.

‘This is the last vroom vroom, but he makes calls, do you like texting?’ she asked.

“Yeah, I do text a bit,” the customer replied.

‘Are you a swiper too?’ Ricciardo asked, referring to dating apps like Tinder.

“Not at the moment, I’m all blocked,” the client replied.

“You’re a good-looking guy, you should, you tie yourself up, I think,” Ricciardo said.

The customer seems less than impressed with the demonstration of ruining an old phone by dunking it in water, even if it came down to a bargain price.

Ricciardo shows off the old phone, then dunks it in a glass of water to prove it’s ‘waterproof’

The customer managed to nod and smile politely, but Ricciardo was at a loss, laughing behind his hand before continuing the joke.

Then he picked up an older model phone and said, “This is my vroom vroom, it’s $20 if you want it.”

“And it’s waterproof, man, check this out,” Ricciardo added before dunking it in a glass of water and completely destroying it.

‘Maybe I have to give you some rice with that.

That was enough for this customer, who was politely escorted to see a real salesperson.

The next customer in line was looking for high-speed internet, and Ricciardo was forced to go on a classic tirade that included singing lyrics to a Goo Goo Dolls classic.

‘I’m Jesse, how can I help you? Have you heard about our new broadband? It’s super fast. It’s faster than a racing car. I love speed. I really love anything that goes fast like my hairline. That’s something I really enjoy,” Ricciardo said as the bewildered customer could barely get a word out.

This Optus customer had no idea that Daniel Ricciardo would serenade him when he walked into the store to upgrade his broadband

Then came the serenade.

‘Do you like games? It’s great for gaming. Singstar is one of my favourites. Have you heard of Singstar? It’s like karaoke. You know Iris from the Goo Goo dolls. You know the chorus,’ Ricciardo said before starting to sing.

While the first two customers had been genuine, it was time for the Nova team to take a quick hit on the Australian F1 star.

“Optus is all about saying yes, so any question you’re asked, your answer should be yes every time,” Fitzy directed Ricciardo for his final challenge.

An attractive young woman then approached the counter under the guise of ‘looking for a new phone plan’, but, unknown to Ricciardo, she had been stood up by the Nova trio.

“You look very familiar,” he said.

Yeah.

Are you Daniel Ricciardo?

Yeah.

‘What are you doing working here? Can we take a selfie?

“Not like this,” Ricciardo said as he began to laugh.

Ricciardo couldn’t help but blush or laugh when this actor flipped the F1 superstar’s script.

The jilted actor then ramped things up a bit.

“You smell good,” she said.

Yeah.

‘Do you think you are actually the best Red Bull driver?’

Yeah.

I think you kiss very well.

Yeah.

‘Are you?’

Yeah.

‘Should we test that theory sometime? Give me your number?

Flushing and laughing hysterically, Ricciardo had to leave the game because his girlfriend, Heidi Berger, probably wouldn’t be happy if he said yes.

The actor then revealed that the Nova trio had sent her to take over from Ricciardo.

“Oh my gosh, I hate you guys,” she laughed.
