Aussie cruiser labelled a ‘sick troll’ by fellow guests for innocent act while aboard: ‘You are endangering us all’

A cruise traveler thought she was doing future guests a “friendly favor” by leaving her $8 kettle in the bottom drawer of her suite.

But she didn’t know that the common household item is banned on board cruises because it is considered a “fire hazard.”

Julie shared images on Facebook of the simple white kettle sitting in the drawers without a plug, but was soon attacked by angry guests who branded her a ‘danger’ and a ‘sick troll’.

“Whoever’s on this cruise is leaving today. I left my kettle for you, it only cost $8 and I didn’t feel like taking it home. It’s in the bottom drawer with some treats for you,” she captioned the post.

This sparked anger among other travelers who were shocked that the item had not been collected by security before boarding.

Items with an open flame or heating element are prohibited on cruises, with the exception of hairdryers and hair straighteners.

‘Kettles can cause fire on a ship. Please don’t go on any cruise I’m on,” one person warned.

“You’re lucky it got through security and you’re lucky your cabin crew didn’t see it. You’re lucky it didn’t cause a problem when you used it. It’s a fire hazard and fire is the worst thing that can happen on a cruise!’ another added.

What is not allowed on a cruise ship?

In addition to weapons, alcohol, drugs and pets, items with an open flame or heating element are considered a fire hazard and are prohibited.

These include coffee makers, kettles, hotplates, candles, incense, heating pads, electric blankets and irons.

‘It is very irresponsible to bring a prohibited item on board and then allow others to use it. I guess this is just a sick troll post,” wrote another.

‘That will be confiscated when the room is cleaned. Someone at the port wasn’t doing their job if you kept doing that.’

Others were shocked by the amount of hate Julie received, calling the act an “innocent mistake.”

‘WOW! Give the poor lady a rest! She clearly didn’t know she wasn’t allowed to take it [a] kettle on board and thought she was doing something nice for the next guests in that room,” said one.

“If it wasn’t allowed, the cabin crew would have confiscated before or during the cruise,” wrote another

‘The cleaners empty the drawers and it goes to lost and found. But I love your thoughtful intention behind this,” a third added.

Other items, including candles, incense, heating pads, electric blankets and irons, are also prohibited on cruises.
