Several residents were trapped on the third floor of the complex as smoke billowed throughout the building.

A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson told the Daily Mail that Australian firefighters managed to evacuate residents after arriving on the scene.

“Firefighters were faced with a fierce fire in the ground floor unit, with smoke penetrating into the upper levels,” they said.

Evacuated residents await evaluation by paramedics.
