Cristiano Ronaldo has joked about his likely retirement from football, with the 38-year-old giving a tongue-in-cheek response when asked about his future plans.

The Al-Nassr striker was asked when he planned to hang up his boots in Dubai, where he is attending the Globe Soccer Awards.

Ronaldo initially claimed he would retire ‘soon’, before the football legend cheekily suggested he could stay at the top of the game for a while longer.

“The moment I finish, I honestly don’t know,” Ronaldo said.

‘Of course it will be soon, soon I mean another ten years.

“No, I’m kidding, I don’t know, let’s see.”

Ronaldo, who turns 39 next month, currently plays for Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr.

The Portuguese star joined the club last January in a deal worth £175 million per year, following the termination of his contract with Man United.

Ronaldo was asked about his future plans during the Globe Soccer Awards.

The forward one tops the list of twelve players for the first prize for ‘Best Player from the Middle East’ after a remarkable start at Al-Nassr.

He is the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League this season with twenty goals, three more than nearest rival Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Ronaldo finished as world football’s top scorer in 2023, scoring 54 goals for club and country during the calendar year.

Al-Nassr will be looking to chase leaders Al-Hilal in the second half of the domestic season, with Ronaldo’s side hoping to close the seven-point gap on their rivals.

Ronaldo’s current contract with Al-Nassr runs until the end of the 2024/25 season, when he would be 40 years old.

TV presenter Piers Morgan, a close friend of Ronaldo, claimed after an interview with the star in 2022 that the football legend told him he wanted to retire around the age of 40.
