Crimes against women will not be tolerated: Rajasthan and CM-elect Diya Kumari

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister-designate Diya Kumari on Wednesday targeted the Congress party for its inaction on the serious issue of crime against women, saying the “Congress was in a deep sleep”.

Moreover, Diya Kumari emphasized that the BJP, led by their 'Sankalp Patra', is committed to ensuring women's safety. She assured that any crime against women will not be overlooked and strict action will be taken and proper investigation will be conducted.

“Crimes against women have always been a major problem. BJP teams had reached locations where such incidents were taking place. They (BJP teams) had left no stone unturned to get justice for the victims and their families. But Congress was in a deep sleep. it will be our priority, this is also clear in our 'Sankalp Patra' i.e. no crime against women will be tolerated, strict action will be taken and proper investigation will be conducted,” Diya said Kumari, deputy CM candidate of Rajasthan. .

“The way the Congress has eroded Rajasthan in five years – be it law and order, security or finance. There was no development, false statements were made and false guarantees were given. Everyone knows the situation. The entire BJP team and the government will work, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to improve this situation in Rajasthan and bring the state back on track…' she further added.

Diya Kumari won from Vidyadhar Nagar constituency against Congress' Sitaram Agarwal by a margin of 71,368 votes. She will take oath as Deputy Chief Minister to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

She is the granddaughter of Man Singh II, the last ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Jaipur. Her call to vote was made as 'daughter of Jaipur' and the 'princess walking on the streets'.

Since joining the BJP in 2013, Diya Kumari has won the two elections she has contested. She was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan in 2013 from Sawai Madhopur constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, she was elected MP from Rajsamand.

The name of Bhajan Lal Sharma as Chief Minister of Rajasthan was announced by Vasundhara Raje of the BJP, whose name was also among the contenders for the top post.

In Rajasthan, the vote tally painted a very different picture than some pollsters had predicted: the BJP formed the government, winning 115 seats, leaving the Congress with 69 seats.
