Influencer Nara Smith, who has long been accused of being a “traditional wife,” has shut down the rumors in her signature, gentle way.
Nara, 22, started out as a model and has built a following of millions on social media thanks to visually appealing content in which she makes all kinds of food and even medicinal products from scratch – from cereals and ice cream to cough syrups and sunscreen.
She has never described herself as a “traditional wife,” by which she means women who are obsessed with postwar gender roles and who often theatrically glorify household chores on social media.
Yet, despite her chic outfits with perfect makeup and hair, and getting her hands dirty in the kitchen for her husband and/or children, Nara certainly seemed to fit in with the ideology of the traditional woman.
Nara Smith, 22, is known for her ethereal cooking videos that have been interpreted by many as aligning with traditional women’s ideology
Although she has never identified herself as a “traditional wife,” Nara’s tendency to glorify domestic life on social media has raised many eyebrows.
Since 2020, she has been married to model Lucky Blue Smith, 26, and the couple have three children: Rumble Honey, three, Slim Easy, two, and three-month-old Whimsy Lou.
Reactions to her posts range from genuine awe to concern, sometimes even suspicion and accusations that she supports the common idea that women function as unpaid servants to their husbands and children.
But from Nara’s perspective, that’s simply not the case.
“I didn’t know that if I enjoyed cooking for my husband and kids, I would automatically have to toil in the kitchen too,” she began in the voiceover of a new video, as she was photographed getting out of bed.
“I don’t have a job, and I have a whole production team at home that handles that.” To be clear, none of that is true,” she claimed.
“I am a working mother, juggling many roles and responsibilities,” she continued.
Nara refuted rumors that she only cooks for her husband and children, also citing personal health reasons as to why she makes everything herself.
“Cooking has always been an important part of my life, especially after I was diagnosed with lupus and my eczema flared up again,” she explains.
In a new video, Nara responded by saying she is a “working mother” who “juggles all kinds of roles and responsibilities”
Later in the video, she enjoys breakfast with her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith, 26, as they “catch up on things we didn’t get to talk about the day before.”
After Nara had prepared herself, she dressed her children and combed their hair
“I knew I had to change my eating habits and my lifestyle.”
From that moment on, the video captured her day as she prepared for her trip to New York City with Whimsy Lou for the “ninth photo shoot” since her birth in April.
Nara then “made breakfast for the kids while they colored and rode their scooters around the house,” after which she had breakfast with Lucky and “discussed things we hadn’t had a chance to talk about the day before.”
Then she got ready. She put on make-up and a simple outfit. Then she dressed the children and combed their hair.
When her car was only an hour away from arriving at the airport, she decided to do some grocery shopping so Lucky would have the “necessities” when he was home alone. She even planned his meals for the next few days.
‘At that moment I realized I only had an hour left before my car would pick me up.
“Lucky never lets me pack my own bags, so he did it for me and we said goodbye before I headed to the airport,” she added.
Nara and Lucky got married in 2020 and have three children: Rumble Honey, three, Slim Easy, two, and three-month-old Whimsy Lou.
Thousands of people took to the comments to applaud Nara for her level-headed response to her haters, which she delivered in the gentlest of tones
Thousands of people responded to the comments on the new post to show their support, pointing out how impressive it is that Nara remains calm and responds even to hate.
“This is the calmest clap back ever,” someone wrote.
“She ate you guys up with such grace and kindness, wow,” added a second.
“She tasted that tea like a STYLISH QUEEN,” declared a third.
“Nara is so relaxed and enjoying the life she is living,” a fourth commented.
And a fifth complimented: ‘I feel like people don’t notice the discipline you have because you make everything you do look SO easy and effortless. But the fact that it looks that way is because of the work and effort you put into it!’
Nara also addressed the issue of her apparent domestic role in a an older post.
Summing up what her husband “eats in a day” — everything she cooks for him — she clarified, “Cooking is my love language. So this is not something that is expected of me, this is just something that I love to do.”
