They may have been named after infamous London gangsters, but these Kray-nines looked more playful than disturbing as they celebrated their first anniversary.
Police pups in training Reggie and Ronnie joined the Devon and Cornwall Police Dog Unit in December 2025 when they were just 13 weeks old.
Since then, the pair – believed to be the only Rottweilers to train as general-purpose police dogs in Britain – have been put to the test of following commands, detecting scents and taking out suspects.
They are named after identical twin gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, who were involved in murder, armed robbery, arson, protection fraud, gambling and assault in the 1950s and 1960s before ending up behind bars.
But unlike their namesakes, the puppies are more than happy to be in charge of The Fur-m while staying on the right side of the law.
On Tuesday, the twins took a break from their schedule to don colorful birthday hats and bibs to celebrate their special occasion.
Over the past year, the brothers have grown into big dogs, with Reggie weighing in at around 80 lbs (37.5 kg) and Ronnie tipping the scales at 80 lbs (38.1 kg).
Paul Glennon, the force’s dog development officer, told the BBC earlier this year that Ronnie had shown ‘fantastic tracking skills’.

He added: ‘We wanted to choose a name that would bring them together and people would pay attention to it, so that’s the main reason.
“Unlike the originals, hopefully these guys will have to deal with bad guys and bring them to justice.”
Reggie and Ronnie will spend approximately 14 months in training before being transferred to their supervisors for a three-month course.
If they make it, the twins can expect to serve until they turn eight years old.
