Text messages contained in the affidavit also reveal how he tried to escape charges after colleagues found the potassium cyanide he had ordered from his office.

He first claimed that it was a ring for his wife, then admitted that it was in fact poison, but claimed that she had ordered it for herself.

When he refuted that lie, he admitted to ordering it, but claimed it was part of a game of suicide “chicken” the couple was playing.

James said he ordered the potassium cyanide, but he didn’t think she’d actually take it. She described the situation as similar to a game of chicken.

Craig admitted to drugging Angela five or six years ago and addressed the incident in a text message to his wife while she is hospitalized.

The elaborate stories are made up of incriminating Google searches he conducted on “how to mix poison” in the days before his wife’s death.

He also complained about a delay in shipping more potassium cyanide on March 9.

When she started feeling sick on March 6, she texted him that she felt like she had been “drugged.”

His sister later told police that he had drugged her years earlier, claiming it was an effort to knock her out long enough for him to kill himself unmolested.

For days before she died, he would text her incessantly asking how she was feeling and what was wrong.
