Collier Homes: Residential building company collapses after more than 60 years in business

One of Western Australia’s largest housing companies has collapsed, with Collier Homes going out of business after more than 60 years in business.

The Australian Securities and Investment Commission confirmed on Tuesday that the company would close, with McGrath Nicol’s Robert Conry Brauer and Linda Methven Smith appointed as liquidators.

Collier Homes was founded in 1959 by Raymond McCarthy.

The brand assets were sold to the current owner, Dario Amara, in November 2016.

An earlier post on the company’s website referenced the challenges facing the sector since the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

“We are doing our best to satisfy our customers in these challenging times,” the message said.

“The post-Covid stimulus was well-intentioned, but it created massive supply chain shortages, delays and labor restrictions, all of which translated into unpredictable cost escalation.”

Mr. Amara is a second generation builder with over 40 years of experience.
