The firing of AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini is officially confirmed after the technical director’s ‘exciting meeting with owner Gerry Cardinale on Monday’… leaving some high-profile names thinking about their futures
Paolo Maldini has been sacked as technical director by AC Milan after an uneven period behind the scenes at the club where he achieved legendary status as a player.
Maldini has had an executive role at the Milan club since 2018 and was promoted to technical director in 2019.
Milan won the Scudetto after a stellar 2021-22 season, but Maldini’s abilities have been called into question in the 12 months since success after a number of high-profile signings failed to shine this season in the wake of success.
The former defender, who spent 25 years of his playing career at the club, was reported to have had a tense meeting on Monday with Milan’s owner Gerry Cardinale, along with their director of football Ricky Massera.
Massera is also believed to have been fired.
