On Thursday afternoon, central Georgia experienced flash flooding due to a powerful storm that dropped two inches of rain in less than two hours.

In the city center, three hours of rain fell in just 15 minutes. Floods had swallowed cars and turned parking lots into lakes. The area’s Georgia Aquarium was closed for the rest of the day.

Atlanta police confirmed the student was pulled from a flooded dormitory after being trapped.

A student who helped rescue the trapped girl said in a TikTok video, “What happened was a door collapsed on her leg, and other things fell on the door.”

‘It wasn’t just the water coming through the window. The water came through the walls.’

Students said the college had moved those living in the basement to another floor but had not attempted to move them out of the building.

While the video shows an exit sign in the basement, students said they had to go to another floor to leave the building.

Student Ejon Woods said his car was destroyed by the wild weather.

β€œIt totally adds up. I got all my stuff out. This is my only means of transportation. β€œI don’t know what to do from here,” he said Atlanta New First.

Student Cherish Turner described the flash flooding as “scary.”

β€œI looked out the window and saw the big flood and more and more videos came in of the floating cars,” he said 11Alive.

A spokesperson for Clark Atlanta University said officials responded quickly to the incidents to support students during the flooding.

The university said crews were working to assess damage and make repairs.

β€œAll students living in the flood-affected residential areas are currently being relocated to new housing,” a statement said.

We continue to assess the impact of the severe weather,” the university said in a statement.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in downtown Atlanta on Thursday. Although thunderstorms are typical of summer afternoons in the South, some gust fronts, defined as “the leading edge of the thunderstorm’s downward motion,” brought more storms and flash flooding.
