Chloe Sevigny Hosts NYC Closet Sale Attended By Whistleblower Chelsea Manning: ‘Just Wow!’

Nineties It Girl Chloë Sevigny was stunned when whistleblower and transgender pioneer Chelsea Manning attended her “Sale of the Century” event in Manhattan’s NoHo neighborhood on Sunday.

The 48-year-old Oscar nominee planted a kiss on the 35-year-old security consultant’s cheek as she held a pink piece of clothing next to a rack of clothes from her storage unit.

Chelsea (née Bradley) was working as a US Army intelligence analyst when she shared nearly 750,000 classified/sensitive military and diplomatic documents with WikiLeaks, leading to her receiving a 35-year prison sentence in 2010.

President Barack Obama commuted Manning’s sentence to seven years in 2013, but she was imprisoned again from 2019-2020 for contempt of court for refusing to testify in the US government’s case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Chloë – with 1 million Instagram followers – Installed a photo of the pair captioned, “Just wow.”

The New Englander showed off her eccentric style at the sale in a puff sleeve black T-shirt dress with a sporty No. 5 with a matching bag and sandals.

Chloë — who designed the costumes in her ex-boyfriend Harmony Korine’s 1997 film Gummo — wore her highlighted blonde locks down for the fashion festivities and kept her makeup minimal behind her nude-framed shades.

And since it was Mother’s Day, Sevigny made sure to bring her Gummy Bear-loving three-year-old son Vanja from her three-year marriage to Karma Art Gallery director Siniša Mackovic.

Fans can then see Proenza Schouler FW/23’s catwalker as real-life fashion icon CZ Guest in the second season of Ryan Murphy’s decade-long Feud: Capote and the Women, premiering later this year on FX.

The socialite (born Lucy Douglas Cochrane) was a muse to many, painted by Diego Rivera, Salvador Dalí, Kenneth Paul Block and Andy Warhol.

Legendary author Ernest Hemingway was best man at CZ’s 1947 wedding to polo champion Winston Frederick Churchill Guest, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor were godparents to their two children.

Gast — who died in 2003 at age 83 — also happened to be friends with novelist and playwright Truman Capote.

‘Finally! I’ve wanted to play a glamorous character since The Last Days of Disco and she was only half glamorous. This was so much fun,” Chloe said W magazine last Thursday.

“I read George Plimpton’s Truman Capote book. Slim Keith’s book. The Capote’s Women book, on which the series is based. Clearly Truman’s own books. I looked at endless pictures of CZ online and various things people had written about her. Oddly enough, there wasn’t much video footage of her, but I got over her accent at first.

‘I worked many hours. Ryan Murphy calls me up and says, “Nobody’s gonna believe somebody talk like that.” She would switch between a British, Boston, and New York accent in the same breath. He was like, “I think this is too challenging.” So in the end I had to water it down a bit.”

All eight episodes of the anthology series were directed by two-time Oscar nominee Gus Van Sant with Pulitzer Prize finalist Jon Robin Baitz serving as showrunner.

Baitz also adapted Laurence Leamer’s 2021 book Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era.

The miniseries deals with Esquire’s deadly fallout in 1976 when he published chapters from Truman Capote’s unfinished novel Answered Prayers – specifically a story about his wealthy “swan” girlfriends entitled La Côte Basque 1965.

Feud: Capote and the Women also features Tom Hollander, Naomi Watts, Treat Williams, Demi Moore, Diane Lane, Calista Flockhart, Molly Ringwald and newcomer Ella Beatty.
