Chiefs get another injury worry as key player is limited in practice before San Francisco 49ers clash

The Kansas City Chiefs have suffered another headache as a key offensive player has been added to the injury report.

Juju Smith-Schuster was a starter at wide receiver following the injuries to both Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Rashee Rice, and the veteran led the Chiefs with 130 receiving yards in Week 5.

However, on Thursday he was added to the Chiefs’ injury report due to a hamstring problem, having limited practice.

A day earlier he was a full participant in training without injury.

After Brown’s shoulder injury in the preseason and Rashee Rice’s knee injury earlier this month — both of which are likely season-ending — the Chiefs are extremely thin at wide receiver.

Rookie Xavier Worthy has shown some flashes, while Justin Watson and Mecole Hardman are familiar with Andy Reid’s offense.

But Smith-Schuster and Travis Kelce are certainly the team’s most experienced pass catchers, and it would be a blow to Patrick Mahomes not to have the former at his disposal when the Chiefs visit the 49ers this weekend.

Despite their injuries on offense — including starting running back Isaiah Pacheco being placed on IR with a leg injury — the Chiefs are undefeated to start the season.

Mahomes and Co. have amassed a 5-0 record with wins over the Ravens, Bengals, Falcons, Chargers and Saints.

The reigning NFC champion 49ers limped out of the gate to a 3-3 start, but earned an emphatic 36-24 victory over the Seahawks last week.

Their game against the Chiefs starts at 4:25ET.
