Channel Nine’s Clint Stanaway has a run-in with police in Paris as the city prepares for the Olympics: ‘They weren’t happy’

Channel Nine’s Clint Stanaway has revealed he was nearly arrested in Paris this week.

The 41-year-old, who is in the French capital to give a presentation for Weekend Today during the Olympic Games, says he came into contact with authorities after entering a restricted area.

Clint said he was pulled over by police after accidentally stumbling upon a brand new train station that is opening next week.

Appears on Nova 100’s Jase and Lauren show On Friday, Clint said he knew “something wasn’t right” with his situation when there were no other passengers on the platform other than himself.

‘I Do you hear this? ”Monsieur! Excuse-moi Monsieur!” he said.

“I had unintentionally bypassed security. I was outside the borders and in a restricted area.”

The Weekend Today presenter added that the situation with police quickly defused when they realised he was ‘from out of town’.

“It was a brand new station that was going to open next week, in conjunction with the Olympic Games and the opening ceremony,” he said, adding: “[The police] were not happy.’

Clint said the security breach occurred on his first day in Paris, when he was exploring public transportation options, including the city’s metro network.

Elsewhere in the conversation with hosts Jason Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, Clint described how French authorities have imposed strict security measures in Paris in preparation for the Olympic Games, which begin on July 26.

He said the police and army have created a “ring of steel” around Paris.

“They’re basically trying to shut down the central business district,” he explained.

He added that authorities have put up barbed wire fences all over the city to ensure security and noted that there was a heavy police presence on the streets.

“You feel safe there and not much can go wrong,” he said.

Clint is one of three new presenters confirmed for Channel Nine’s breakfast show Weekend Today earlier this year.

The network announced that Jayne Azzopardi and Clint would become the show’s new hosts, with Sophie Walsh as newsreader and Dan Anstey as weather presenter.

Jayne, Clint and Sophie replaced experienced presenters Richard Wilkins, Belinda Russell and Charles Croucher.
