Channel 4 is canceling popular comedy series after just one season, despite the celebrity-studded cast

Channel 4 has canceled a hit comedy series after just one season, despite its celebrity-filled cast.

The Holden Girls: Mandy and Myrtle was labeled “hilarious” by viewers when the first eight episodes aired in 2021.

The show sees BGT judge Amanda Holden, 52, convince her ‘nan’ Myrtle to leave her home in Doncaster for a fast-paced life in the city in her London flat.

However, Myrtle is played in disguise by comedian Keith Lemon (aka Leigh Francis), though it took a while for many viewers to notice.

But the show has now been canceled after just one season, as producers reportedly turn their attention to new programs.

Sad news: Channel 4 has discontinued the popular comedy series The Holden Girls: Many and Myrtle

Cancelled: The program originally aired on E4 in 2021, starring Amanda Holden and Keith Lemon

A source told The sun: ‘The Holden Girls turned out hilarious together and bosses loved working with Amanda and Keith.

“But they’ve decided to turn their attention to new comedy shows.”

Viewers were thoroughly entertained when the season first aired on E4 in 2021 and took to Twitter to share their reaction.

One of them said, ‘I absolutely love Mandy and Myrtle, The Holden girls! So funny, I hope there are many more!’

In March, another added: ‘The Holden girls: Mandy and Myrtle are really funny. You should have done another series.’

The show also saw cameos from other famous faces, including GMB’s Ben Shepherd and former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes.

In a clip from the program, Amanda told the camera that she has been worried about her grandmother lately.

She said, “I’ve been really worried about my grandma since my grandpa Derick died.

Gutted: Twitter users were hoping for a new series after enjoying the show’s first season

Funny: The Holden Girls watched the BGT judge persuade her ‘nan’ to leave her home in Doncaster for a life in London

“It was very important to bring her here and make her feel part of the family again.”

Amanda’s ‘nan’ then came on screen asking viewers? “Would you like to see some pictures of Mandy?”

She then pulled out a photo of Amanda from her first marriage to Les Dennis and said, “There she is, married to Les. Do you remember Les? I liked Les. He made everyone laugh as soon as he entered a room.’

Despite the disappointing news, Amanda has a busy schedule as she prepares for the launch of the new series of Britain’s Got Talent, the first episode of which will air on ITV1 on April 15.

Channel 4 declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.
