Casey DeSantis says being called ‘Walmart Melania’ is a ‘victory’ as she reveals her struggle with wigs during cancer treatment

Casey DeSantis said any comparison to former First Lady Melania Trump is a compliment — even if she’s been called the “Walmart Melania.”

Florida’s first lady hit back at attacks on her during a conversation with conservative commentator Dana Loesch, specifically addressing those who mocked her wigs while she underwent breast cancer treatment.

While her husband, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, is failing in his 2024 presidential campaign, many Republicans still see Casey, a mother of three and breast cancer survivor, as the operation’s shining star.

But that is also accompanied by attacks from the opposing political party and from die-hard Trump supporters who want to see him as the Republican presidential candidate.

‘How do you deal with that, especially in this political environment and especially in this media age?’ Loesch asked Casey DeSantis during their interview that aired Tuesday afternoon.

DeSantis, once a novice anchor, said she had to “hold my breath” as the conservative media personality listed some of the insults thrown at her in recent years as her husband became governor and later launched a presidential bid.

“They also called me Walmart Melania,” DeSantis noted. “Which, by the way… is in the same sentence as Melania? I consider that a big victory. So check that box.”

The first lady of Florida admitted, “I do shop at Walmart because I mean, you have young kids, they grow up like that.”

Melania Trump, a former model, was often seen as a fashion icon in the White House. Some have fondly compared Casey DeSantis and her fashion and poise to former US first ladies such as Jackie Kennedy and Nancy Reagan.

A few months ago, Ron DeSantis was seen as the likely Republican to take on former President Donald Trump in the 2024 primaries. But during the campaign so far, other contenders have overtaken the Florida governor and his poll numbers have fallen to as low as fifth place at times.

Casey and Ron have two daughters and a son: Madison, six, Mason, five, and Mamie, three.

Casey DeSantis spoke with conservative media personality Dana Loesch in an interview on The First TV. She talked about people making fun of her hairline when she wore wigs during breast cancer treatment

“Now if they’re criticizing my hair, and these stupid articles or whatever, my hairline, and they want to, make fun of me quick,” DeSantis said. “And it’s like, man, if you only knew half of it, you wouldn’t say a lot of these things, because I’m just grateful that I have a hairline. I really struggled with some of the wigs because, you know, that’s your image.”

Often the family is seen together on the campaign trail, which DeSantis admits is a challenge but a joy, especially since her cancer diagnosis left her unsure if she would be there to see her children grow up.

In a conversation with Loesch, Ms. DeSantis opened up about her struggles with wearing a wig while the media attacked her “hairline.”

“Now when they criticize my hair, and these stupid articles or whatever, and they want to have it, they’re quick to make fun of me,” DeSantis said, according to a transcript of the interview provided before the broadcast .

“And you know, I’m trending with Eddie Munster, you know, online on Twitter,” she added. “And it’s like, man, if you only knew half of it, you wouldn’t say a lot of these things, because I’m just grateful that I have a hairline.”

Eddie Munster is a fictional werewolf character with the spiky hairline of a dramatic widow.

“I really struggled with some of the wigs because, you know, that’s your image,” DeSantis admitted. “And so there were some that I thought were good. And I remember going out and doing an event and thinking, That was terrible.”

On October 4, 2021, Governor DeSantis announced that his wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Subsequently, on March 3, 2022, Ms. DeSantis announced that she was deemed cancer-free.

DeSantis could no longer praise her husband during her struggles, claiming that he was there every moment to act as a father and partner when she was not at her best.
