  • The carpet python was seeking refuge from day 32C

A swimming snake surprised a father and his children after it casually slithered into their backyard pool for a quick dip.

The massive carpet python caught the family off guard on Thursday as it tested the waters of their Brisbane pool on a scorchingly hot day when the mercury hit 32.3C.

Carpet pythons are non-venomous snakes found on the northeast coast of Australia, including in Brisbane.

Another Brisbane family had a carpet python escape into their pool and hold its breath underwater for a while after they tried to remove it from their property in 2020.

Thursday’s snake was filmed by the father, while he and his two sons commented on the snake’s movements.

At the beginning of the recording, the father and one of his sons were surprised to see the python turn towards the pool.

‘I’m not sure if you want to go in there, brother,’ the father said as the snake began to lean towards the water.

I hope you can get out.

Then the snake quickly poked its head out of the water.

“I don’t think he likes water,” said one of the boys, as he began to dive.

‘Oh wait, yes it does.’

The snake can then be seen gliding while keeping its head above the surface of the water, appearing to be looking for a way out.

“I think he will be able to come out again, he should be strong enough,” the father said.

‘There’s a snake in our pool, it looks bigger now,’ one of the boys told the other.

A father and two children watched and commented as the python made its way around the family's backyard pool before the father said it should.

A father and two children watched and commented as the python made its way around the family’s backyard pool before the father said he should “call someone about this.”

‘Um, is there a snake in our pool? Excuse me?’ replied the other boy.

“I might have to call someone about this,” the father said as the snake began to struggle to find a way out.

Social media users quickly viewed the video and left comments about the beauty of the snakes and comments from the family.

“Love this, glowing comments on the back,” wrote one user.

“Beautiful, I loved hearing the children’s concern for their visitor, I agree that dad is a good man,” commented a second.

“Pythons are really good swimmers and climbers,” wrote a third user.

I have seen them swim across streams and climb near vertical rocks on the other side.
