Car passenger who filmed sick killing of retired LA police chief is caught and arrested – as Las Vegas cops reveal the two teens were on a hit-and-run rampage on the day of the attack

A teenage passenger in a car who filmed his friend fatally mowing down a retired police chief’s ‘sunshine’ has been arrested and arrested.

Las Vegas police previously arrested the 17-year-old driver behind the wheel of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra who intentionally struck 64-year-old Andreas Probst, and on Tuesday they also arrested his accomplice.

Both boys have been charged with murder and will be tried as adults after targeting Probst while he was riding his bicycle on a northwest Vegas highway around 6 a.m. Aug. 14.

Police said they also linked the teens to at least three hit-and-runs on the same day. They believe the killing of Probst, a former police chief in Bell, Calif., ended the frenzy.

Probst, 64, was fatally shot Aug. 14 while riding his bike in northwest Las Vegas. Footage taken by the passenger shows he was intentionally killed by the teenage driver.

Laughter and comments from inside the car were heard before Probst, wearing a red shirt and dark shorts, was struck and thrown against the windshield.

Deputy Police Chief Nick Farese called the “intentional” hit in a stolen vehicle and the sick video “a cowardly act that, in my 22 years of police service, has left me personally appalled.”

Clark County Prosecutor Steve Wolfson said he took a personal interest in the case and vowed to charge both teens as adults. Until then, he said they would not be identified because of their age.

“Justice will be served in this case,” Wolfson said.

“We ask that you not politicize or use Andy’s murder to fuel political agendas or create culture wars,” she said.

Probst added that he was known among his colleagues as a “prankster” with a dark sense of humor.

“His death should be treated the same way he lived, with honor and integrity, and maybe a dark joke here and there. Oops! Too soon, that’s something Andy would say.

Probst urged the prosecutor’s office to “take these crimes as far as the law.”

The 17-year-old driver was arrested the day of the crashes on traffic charges related to the fatal hit-and-run.

Probst retired to Nevada after leaving his post as police chief of Bell, California, in 2009.

“Honestly, he was like a ray of sunshine that came through your life,” said Probst’s daughter Taylor, seen with her mother Crystal at a memorial vigil at the crash site.

Police said they initially did not become aware of the video until a few weeks later, when a school resource officer provided it to investigators, leading to a murder charge against the driver and a Police search for passenger in video.

Police say the crime spree began around 5:30 a.m. when the teens allegedly hit a 72-year-old cyclist before driving off and crashing into a Toyota Corolla.

The driver was not injured in the accident, police said, without specifying any injuries suffered by the cyclist.

Seconds after hitting the Toyota, the teens drove into Probst as he was riding his bike on a designated bike lane, police said.

They drove off laughing, Farese said, “leaving him for dead on the side of a road.”
