Candice Warner reveals why she has husband David on a weekly allowance – as the cricketer plans his retirement

He may be a multi-millionaire cricketer, but David Warner lives on a modest weekly allowance set by his wife Candice.

The former Ironwoman, 37, spoke up about the unique financial arrangement Triple M’s Rush Hour with Gus, Jude & Wendell on Monday.

She explained that she limits David’s spending because he sometimes goes too far with gambling and impulse buying.

His benefits are healthy. I’m the sensible spender, while David is kind of whimsical and he likes a punt,” she said.

“David loves to buy a random horse or bet on the golf course, so he needs an allowance to keep our family going. [and] make sure the mortgage is paid.’

‘But the allowance will go up around my birthday and anniversaries!’ she added.

The Warners, who married in 2015 and share three daughters, recently moved into their $4 million mansion in Maroubra, Sydney.

David and Candice bought the home for $3.9 million in late 2015, before demolishing the property on the 892-square-foot lot.

They later purchased another $2.3 million home in Maroubra in May 2017, which acted as their halfway home while renovations took place on their dream home.

David and Candice are estimated to have spent about $4 million renovating the four-bedroom, two-bath property.

It comes after the couple and their three daughters recently moved into their $4 million mansion in Maroubra, Sydney

It comes after David hinted he could retire from Test cricket after next year’s Ashes, with the lead-off batsman confirming he will walk first away from the red-ball format.

The 50-over World Cup will be held in India early next summer, ahead of the next T20 showpiece in the Caribbean and the US in 2024.

David made it clear that he intends to play in both as he outlined his likely plan to walk away from the game.

“Test cricket will probably be the first to fall off,” he said on Triple M’s Deadset Legends.

‘Cause that’s how it will turn out. The T20 World Cup is in 2024, (one-day) World Cup next year.

‘Possibly it could be my last 12 months in Test cricket. But I like the white ball game; It is awesome.’

Construction on the property began in 2017, with an estimated construction time of two years, but took years to complete
