After a historic college career that ended with back-to-back championship game appearances, Clark was selected as the first overall pick by the Indiana Fever on Monday.

“I got a little worried before the election,” Clark told ESPN.

“I’ve been dreaming about this moment since I was in second grade, and it’s taken a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, but most of all, just trying to absorb it.”

Despite not being able to end her NCAA career with a title, Clark’s senior year will be one to remember. Before the tournament, Clark averaged 31.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game.

Another highlight of her season came when she broke Pete Maravich’s all-time NCAA scoring record on March 3. In a game against Ohio State, Clark surpassed Pistol Pete’s 3,667 career points by reaching 3,685.

Clark avenged Iowa’s 2023 championship game loss to the LSU Tigers in the Elite 8 and defeated Paige Bueckers and UConn in the Final 4 before losing to South Carolina in the finals.

“It’s really hard to win these things,” Clark wrote on Instagram after the loss. “I think I probably know that better than most people by now.”

“It definitely hurts to be so close twice. But at the same time we were there. We fought. We knocked out some great teams to get back to this point [did] something that is very difficult to do,” Clark continued.

Nevertheless, McCaffery continued to show his support, posting a photo of Clark and writing “MY GOAT,” along with several heart emojis.
