Caitlin Clark gives play-by-play a try as she announces her boyfriend’s favorite MLB club after boasting about her on-air talent

Playoff contender Caitlin Clark recently tried to announce a Major League Baseball game, one of her Indiana Fever teammates said.

Lexie Hull posted the silly clip of Clark doing play-by-play for the Milwaukee Brewers’ 2-1 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night, which has since gone viral on TikTok.

“And that ball gets hit to shortstop,” a grinning Clark began in the fourth inning. “Rojas throws to first base and that’s not enough. Infield single, William Contreras.”

She may have confused Phillies shortstop Trea Turner and center fielder Johan Rojas on that play.

Clark was undeterred and continued his story.

Clark boasted that she is a good commentator, so her teammate Lexie Hull put her to the test

“Bottom fourth,” Clark said, her voice trembling slightly as Hull giggled in the background. “Score 1-0 Phillies. This puts somebody up to bat… Here comes the 0-1 pitch. Low, outside.”

Clark wasn’t just covering the action of the game. She provided commentary on Phillies ace Aaron Nola wearing “sketches,” and later quickly revealed an error.

“And a swing and a miss, for the second strikeout of the inning,” she said. “Nola comes out after the leadoff runner gets on the field.”

Somewhat embarrassed, Clark turned to the camera and confessed, “Maybe it was the second batter. I’m not sure.”

Once again Clark continued and after a commercial break she let her audience know that they had reached the ‘top of the five’.

“We’ll be back,” she said, after which her comment turned into laughter.

It turned out that Clark had been touting her broadcasting talents to Hull, who demanded to see them in person.

Clark did so with pleasure.

I told [Hull] “I just sometimes commentate on games, so she said, ‘Okay, let’s do it now,'” Clark told reporters Saturday. “I didn’t really know she was recording until a little while ago. But it’s fun.”

And why did she choose a game between the Phillies and the Brewers?

“I’ve followed the Phillies, so I know some of their players and stuff,” added Clark, whose friend, Connor McCaffery, is a die-hard Philadelphia fan. “It was pretty funny. I messed up a couple times.

“That’s a tough job,” she continued. “I was also out of breath and exhausted. Kudos to all the commentators out there. I did it for about two minutes and I needed a break. And in baseball, there’s a lot of dead time, so you have to find random things to talk about. So I was talking about his shoes, random things. A little different than basketball.”

Clark, admittedly, is not a real baseball fan.

In fact, she has a soft spot for some of the teams, having grown up in Iowa, where the Chicago Cubs have a Triple-A affiliate, and having recently visited the New York Yankees dugout in the Bronx.

“My friend grew up a die-hard Phillies fan, so I had to,” Clark said. “I still like the Cubs, I like the Yankees. I’m not a die-hard baseball team. . . . I liked the Chiefs before the Chiefs were really good, so I’m not a follower.”

The Fever begin their playoffs on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET in Connecticut, where they face the favored Suns in Game 1 of their first-round series.

McCaffery, meanwhile, is preparing for his first season as an assistant coach of the men’s team at Butler in Indianapolis.
