Caitlin Clark has broken her silence after being left out of Team USA’s roster for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.
The Indiana Fever rookie will miss out on the 12-player roster for the Games in the French capital despite being the WNBA’s No. 1 Draft pick.
Instead, head coach Cheryl Reeve and the selection committee would prefer veterans like A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, according to The Athletics.
The decision sparked an angry reaction on the basketball court and Clark has now responded to the omission.
“I’m excited for the girls that are on the team,” Clark said Sunday.
“I know this is the most competitive team in the world and I know it could have gone either way whether I was on the team or not.
“I’m excited for them, I’m going to cheer them on to win gold. I was a kid who grew up watching the Olympics, it will be fun to watch it.”
