A 16-year-old boy from Australia has berated a “childish” American rapper for not giving him credit after completely transforming her hit song.
EightyTwo, a music producer and recording artist, said he was approached by ‘Brylaun’, an aspiring singer and rapper, to help mix and fine-tune some of her new songs.
In a telling video this week, he described the musician as one of the most “childish” and “unprofessional” people he had worked with.
He claims that the artist has not credited him as an artist on songs she earns money from and has asked her to “remove” the songs from her platforms.
Brylaun says that despite her repeated questions, the teen didn’t want any money for the work and says she only made about $5 to $10 from the songs.
In a video posted to social media, EightyTwo said that Brylaun discovered his remix of her debut song “Call Me Back” and asked if she could release the track herself.
He said she could, but only if she mentioned him as an artist.
EightyTwo, a music producer and recording artist from Australia, said aspiring singer and rapper Brylaun didn’t give him credit after he helped mix and tune some of her tracks.
When the remix was released, EightyTwo’s name was not on the track. He contacted Brylaun and asked that his name be added to the song, to which she agreed.
He dismissed it as a “simple mistake” and agreed to mix some more songs for the rapper’s upcoming album.
“She doesn’t say this explicitly, but she wants me to do it for free. I’m a 16-year-old artist from Australia and I need all the attention I can get, so I agree,” he says.
The teen said credit issues continued after the album’s release.
“I can only be seen on the songs where I made the beats, even though I tuned and worked on the vocals on every song on the album,” he said.
“We agreed that I would appear on every song since I worked for her for free.”
The next time the artist asked him to mix her vocals, EightyTwo told her she was busy but would “try and get it done.”
The teen compared the raw vocals he’d received from Brylaun to those he’d mixed and tuned before addressing the artist directly.
“Brylaun, if you don’t acknowledge me for what I’ve done, please take down my hard work that you’re being paid for,” he warns.
Producer EightyTwo made a telling video this week labeling the rapper as one of the most “childish” and unprofessional people he’d worked with
The rapper quickly responded with her side of the story in a series of now-deleted videos.
“I didn’t steal anything from the producer. He made me two things: a ‘Call Me Back’ remix after the song blew up on its own, and an album,” she said.
“Before we did anything, he said he didn’t want money, he didn’t want anything but credit. When [the songs] fell, he was mentioned in it.’
Brylaun said she removed the music video for “Call Me Back” to “make peace” and that her songs had gone viral before she even met EightyTwo.
“The stuff me and him dropped didn’t get any streams, I didn’t make any money from that,” she continued.
“Probably $5 or $10 bucks because it didn’t do any good.”
Brylaun quickly responded with her side of the story in a series of videos
Hundreds of people have since sided with EightyTwo since he shared his story on social media and have left dozens of comments on Brylaun’s videos asking her to name him.
“He just wants to be credited. What part of that don’t you understand?’ said one.
‘He did it for free. The least you can do is give credit. Working for free is not something you take for granted,” said a second.
“I’m pretty sure if he didn’t mix the vocals she wouldn’t have gotten the views and listeners,” a third commented.
