Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst committed a serious foul after catching a touchdown pass from rookie quarterback Bryce Young.
In Young’s first-ever start in the NFL, the former Alabama quarterback was able to lead his team down the field on their fourth drive against the Atlanta Falcons.
But after completing a four-yard touchdown pass to Hurst, the tight end celebrated by throwing the ball into the stands.
That will deprive Young — the first overall pick in this year’s NFL draft — of a seriously important souvenir from his NFL career.
According to an Atlanta sports reporter, angry Falcons fans threw the ball back onto the field.
Hayden Hurst accidentally threw rookie QB Bryce Young’s first TD pass into the stands
Luckily for Young, 9, Falcons fans threw the ball back onto the field, where the team got the ball
Those unaware on social media were planning a huge payday for the fan who caught Hurst’s coin toss
But if they hadn’t, the Panthers probably would have had to find a way to buy it off the fan – as has been the case in the past with memorabilia like this.
Fans took notice and thought the same thing, with one message on social media reading: “Those fans are getting rich.”
Another suggested retaliation, saying, “I wouldn’t throw him a ball for another six weeks.”
Although this was the first score of the match, it was not the last. With the score tied at 7-7, the teams went into the locker room.
