A stunned holidaymaker claims he was ‘ripped off’ after being charged £25 for two scoops of lemon sorbet.
Bailey Turvey traveled to Italy’s Amalfi Coast for a four-day business trip in July and took a boat trip to Positano, a favorite vacation spot for celebrities including Jennifer Lopez and Samuel L. Jackson.
With the region home to some of the best lemons in the world, the 24-year-old decided to try the famous sorbet.
Bailey bought two of the desserts, one scoop of which was served in an eight-inch hollowed-out lemon, for himself and his 23-year-old friend Oliver Bashford-Squires.
But the content creator ‘couldn’t believe it’ when he said he spent 30 euros (£25) on it when he swiped his card on the machine – with each ball costing just over £12.

Bailey shared a video of himself looking bewildered while holding the frozen treat, captioning it: ‘POV: You forgot to ask the price before ordering your ice cream in Positano and you’re charged 30 euros for two scoops of lemon sorbet.’
People responded in the comments and were angry about the price, with one person claiming he had scored a special ‘tourist trap’.
He admitted in the comments: ‘I think we got scammed’.
Bailey, from Brighton, said: ‘I was really shocked. I expected it to be expensive but I didn’t expect it to cost this much.
‘Positano is famous for its lemons, we wanted to try it. We saw everyone walking through the streets and heard about how the lemons came from the region.
‘We didn’t check the price on the menu. If you walk down the street, you don’t see any price on the menu, you just buy it and they can ask you what they want.
‘The shopkeeper didn’t even say how much it cost, he just held up the card reader.
‘I didn’t say anything at the time, I was just quiet. As we were walking away I said to my friend, “Guess how much they cost?” I couldn’t believe it.
‘I think they market it because it’s in a lemon, but it’s the equivalent of a scoop and a half.
Bailey admitted that while the sorbet tasted good, it wasn’t worth the price, so I’ll definitely check the cost before paying for items in the future.
“They make it look big with a huge lemon, but you can’t eat the lemon,” Bailey said
‘They don’t even sell it as one or two scoops, they just sell it as ‘lemon sorbet’ so they can make some profit on that.

‘My boyfriend was just as shocked. I paid for everything so he didn’t have to worry. He didn’t have the same shock to his bank balance as I did.’

Bailey said: ‘It’s definitely a tourist trap. It was a good lemon sorbet but not worth the price.

“It was definitely a game to fool yourself and feel less bad about paying that price.
‘Holiday money is a little different than normal money. If it was something everyday, I wouldn’t believe it, just like if I was at home and spent that money on a cup of coffee.
‘Next time I buy an ice cream, I’ll pay attention to the price.’
TikTok users reacted with shock to the high price.
One user wrote: ‘You didn’t order sorbet. You ordered a tourist trap special.’
Another commented: ‘Is that really what they’re asking?’
A third user wrote: ‘That’s what credit cards are for.’
