Greek police have arrested a British man on suspicion of manslaughter after his partner was killed in a brutal head-on car crash in Greece earlier this week.

The 28-year-old Briton was behind the wheel with his 33-year-old partner in the passenger seat when their car crashed into an oncoming vehicle while driving through the resort of Kardamena on the Greek island of Kos on Monday morning.

Their vehicle collided with a second car driven by a 42-year-old Albanian man, causing a horrific collision.

Both drivers escaped with minor injuries, but the 33-year-old woman suffered serious injuries, Greek media reported. reports.

She was rushed to hospital in Kos by EKAV ambulance, but died of her injuries a few hours later. Doctors were unable to save her.

Her 28-year-old partner was initially released after medical checks, but was subsequently arrested and charged with ‘negligent homicide’.

An FCDO spokesman said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Greece and are in contact with local authorities.’
