British personal trainer needs £250,000 to get home from Thailand after falling from third-storey balcony and suffering horrific injuries while on holiday

  • Kieran, of Castleford, West Yorkshire, fell three storeys from a hotel balcony
  • His return to the UK could cost £170,000-£250,000 without insurance help

A Brit holidaying in Thailand fell three storeys from a hotel baclony and now desperately needs £250,000 to get home for urgent surgery.

A couple’s ‘dream holiday’ has now ‘turned into a nightmare’ as Kieran suffered the devastating fall that triggered internal bleeding and fracturing of his pelvis.

While a speed boat rushed the 23-year-old from the Phi Phi to Bangkok Phuket Hospital for life-saving surgery, the couple’s medical bills have now piled up.

Kieran, reported to be from Yorkshire by The Mirror, ‘cannot move from a laying down position’ and urgently needs another surgery as part of his recovery in learning how to walk again.

Doctors advised that Kieran is flown back to the UK for the procedure, but this could cost between £170,000-£250,000 ‘without any help from the insurance’.

His heartbroken girlfriend – also on the trip – said she ‘wouldn’t wish this on [her] worst enemy’, adding that their best efforts are ‘falling short’.

In a JustGiving campaign Shauna May, explained: ‘He currently has external pelvic fixations and cannot move from a laying down position. He needs a second operation to insert internal fixations before he can start the long recovery process ahead before he will be able to sit on a flight to get home.

‘The doctors advised that we fly home in an air ambulance for his second operation, however, we have been given quotes from £170,000-£250,000 without any help from the insurance. Unfortunately nobody is in a position to be able to afford this.’

Kieran is a personal trainer, so restoring his mobility and learning how to walk again was said to be vital for ‘his career, physical and mental well-being’.

Eleven days after the incident, Shauna said they were still in an ‘exhaustive and tiring fight’ with the insurance company.

She iterated the desperation of getting him home as soon as possible, with further complications and risk of infection arising from delaying the procedure.

She continued: ‘We are now stuck in Thailand with no hope and rising hospital bills, we cannot keep up with the payments or afford to get home. His family have exhausted their savings on medical bills, the hospital are pressing for payments and we are no closer to getting home.’

The couple have currently raised over £16,000 as part of their crowdfunding plea.

‘I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy, my heart is broken seeing the person I love the most suffer like this. His family and I are trying our best but our efforts are falling short and we need help to get home,’ she added.
