A bride has sparked outrage after her controversial ‘bridesmaid contract’ surfaced online, complete with rules about weight gain, hairstyles, alcohol and even the sex lives of her friends.
The lengthy document, which the bridesmaids reportedly had to sign before the big day, contained a long list of requirements to ensure everything went according to plan.
This included a warning not to gain more than three pounds, instructions to ask permission before making major changes to their hair, and a request to avoid “unprotected sex” for three months before the wedding.
According to the poster, the bride had eight bridesmaids for her special day.
The contract begins innocently enough, with the bride telling her friends how happy she was that they had agreed to be part of her special day.
But she quickly made it clear that accepting the role came with some truly unique conditions.
Bridesmaids were then asked to sign the document and return it so that everyone was clear and fully understood what was expected of them if they accepted it.
The first requirement was that they would do their best to attend “any bridal event” unless a “hurricane, monsoon or tsunami” prevented them from doing so.

They also had to agree to wear their designated dress, shoes, jewelry and accessories without fuss and to remove personal jewelry, aside from wedding and engagement rings, so that the bridal party could look alike.
But it was rule number four that immediately raised eyebrows.
“I WILL remain my current slim self (although I may tone up a bit) because weighing over 7 lbs may make me look chubby in the photos that will be there forever for strangers to look at (and I don’t want that! Lol),” the contract read.
They were also instructed not to make any major hair changes before the wedding, with the contract suggesting that anyone considering a new look would send the bride a sample photo or hair sample.
Even wigs and hair extensions were apparently in question, in an effort to prevent the bride from “throwing a hissy fit that day.”
But perhaps the most overwhelming condition was pregnancy.
Bridesmaids were asked to avoid unsafe sex for three months before the wedding if they were not already pregnant.
The bride gave three reasons for the unusual request, including that she couldn’t afford to replace or alter the bridesmaid dresses and wasn’t sure if Vera Wang would make one in “my pregnant woman size.”

Bridesmaids were expected to make themselves available during the wedding weekend to help with everything from setting up the venue and dressing the bride to gathering guests for photos and alerting her if her makeup was fading.
After the festivities, they were also expected to wake up in a “drunk state” and help pack the wedding items before the Sunday barbecue.
Other clauses required the women to keep their hair and makeup looking fresh because they never knew when or where a camera would point, familiarize themselves with the wedding day timeline, and attend the rehearsal and private dinner.
They were allowed to drink during the pre-wedding dinner, but due to the early start the next morning no more than five units of alcohol.
And once they put on their bridesmaid dresses, they were expected to keep them on for the entire wedding day.
This included a warning not to gain more than 3kg, instructions to seek approval before making any major changes to their hair, and a request to avoid ‘unprotected sex’ for three months before the wedding, among many more.
“I know that nude photos do not look good and will upset the bride,” the contract said, although bridesmaids were allowed to exchange their shoes for something more comfortable.
The last line was perhaps the most fitting conclusion of the extraordinary document.
“I WILL NOT try to outshine the bride in any way, because I value my life!” it read.
While several lines were clearly written tongue-in-cheek, Reddit users were far from amused, with many taking particular exception to the bride’s comments about weight and pregnancy.
“If I gain more than seven pounds, I might look chubby.” I would frame this document and then never speak to this person again,” one person wrote.
Another was baffled by the bride’s concern that strangers would one day see the photos.
‘Because ‘strangers’ will look at the photos? NO ONE IS MAKING IT IN,” another commented.
“Nobody can have unprotected sex three months early, even if they’re trying to get pregnant?” someone asked.
Another joked that the bride hadn’t gone far enough if she really wanted to make sure no one was pregnant on the day.
“Girl, it’s a smart move not to have unprotected sex for ten months before the wedding so you don’t have to worry about someone going into labor.”
‘I would go hard for number 12 and not sign these bulls***.’
“I’ve even seen this in other bridesmaid contracts,” one fellow commenter admitted.
“In one of those contracts, there was also a requirement for hair length (minimum chin length), hair color, along with a weight gain limit of 10 pounds,” they wrote.
Others enjoyed finding holes in the bride’s fine print, especially when it came to IVF.
‘What an amateur!’ they joked.
And another came up with an alternative solution to the bride’s fear of ‘crooked’ wedding photos.
“Well, if they’re all pregnant, it keeps the photos from looking crooked!”
